Guide

Touring the Mine always takes place while accompanied by a guide. During their journey through the salt cellars, the explorers will also meet the mysterious Treasurer and enjoy the company of a gnome – one of the salt people.

Starting the tour

The assembly point is the building of the Event Organisation Department, located near the Daniłowicz Shaft.
The tour starts at the scheduled times.

Clothing

The route includes approx. 800 stairs, 380 of which are at the start. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing according to the conditions on the route. The temperature underground falls within the range of 17–18ºC.

Photos

During the tour, taking photos and filming is allowed.

Luggage

Only a small carry-on luggage (with maximum dimensions of 20x20x35 cm) is allowed during the tour of the Mine. You may leave any larger luggage at our automated luggage lockers; however, please keep in mind that the number of lockers and their size are limited, which means that the availability of a suitable luggage locker cannot be guaranteed. Luggage storage is available free of charge during touring hours. When going for a tour of the mine, try your best to avoid taking large luggage and baby strollers with you, as the mine lacks the appropriate storage facilities to keep them for you.

Toilets

Before starting the tour, you can use the toilets, which are located right next to the Daniłowicz Shaft. Toilets are also available underground in two locations on the tour.

ATM
The ATMs can be found on the premises of the Mine, near the Daniłowicz Shaft.
All catering and retail outlets in the Mine accept card payments.
Visitors with disabilities

The Discover Saltland programme is not adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.

Route characteristics

A journey through Saltland and discovering the fairy-tale secrets of the Wieliczka underground is great fun for children and parents. During their journey through the salt cellars, the explorers will meet the mysterious Treasurer, solve various riddles and a quiz, as well as enjoy the company of a gnome – one of the salt people. The excursion takes place along the Tourist Route.

*In exceptional cases, some of the chambers on the Tourist Route, which are part of the Discover Saltland excursion, may be excluded from the tour.

The Mine is a place where you can quiet down for a while and cut yourself off from the world, because telecommunication signals will not reach you here.
However, we have prepared a place for our guests where they can use free WiFi, as well as make calls.

Prohibitions

Open flames, electric torches, smoking cigarettes (including e-cigarettes) are prohibited.
Bringing animals in is prohibited, with the exception of service animals.
We do not offer a facility where you can leave your pet.
