The Mine of culture

The Wieliczka Salt Mine was the pride of Kings and the source of wealth for the country. Today, the Wieliczka chambers are known mostly as one of Poland’s most visited tourist sites, but you should also visit them if you are looking for an artistic experience. The Mine also acts as a patron of art.

Music is our passion, so we strive to make the Mine a true underground city complete with cultural events. One of Europe’s oldest mining orchestras performs underground, and classical music concerts are held regularly. The salt world also attracts artists of renown. The Wieliczka chambers witnessed performances of beautiful voices like Irena Jarocka or Grażyna Brodzińska. Also Jan A. P. Kaczmarek performed in the surrounding of salt rocks and greatly appreciated the underground acoustics.

The Mine of culture teems with life. It offers the most splendid of exhibition halls, created by many generations of Miners. Artists like Richard Horowitz and Jerzy Skolimowski presented their work in the sober surroundings of salt chambers. The fact that the Mine is open to the artists from the farthest parts of the world is testified to by our links with artists from Germany, Asia and even Australia.

We are up-to-date and always in the vanguard. For this, we need to keep in shape, so we support sports and learn perseverance from athletes. We welcome film crews and are not afraid of even such adventurous undertakings as underground balloon flights.

Visit the mine of culture! In the city carved in salt there is no time for boredom. It is worth coming again and again to the Wieliczka chambers to discover them always anew, to the accompaniment of music, admiring the work of known artists or watching exciting sports events.
